Department of Art & Design

A relatively young department, the Department of Art & Design (DoAD) is a space that encourages creativity, experimentation, and critical engagement with the social and cultural fabric of the local community, prompting the students to explore and discover their methods through research and hands on creation. With a focus on an interdisciplinary method of teaching, the Department of Art & Design houses programs that allow possibilities of learning within various fields of the Visual Arts for any young aspiring artist. The Design program is the oldest paving the path through its inception in 2010; the Fine Arts program and Interior Design program followed soon after, in 2019. The industrial design program is the 4th to be housed under the umbrella of Art & Design, starting up exclusively at the Wah Campus from 2022.

The Design program focuses on inculcating critical thinking skills, investigating the role of art and design in society and culture, as a medium that can affect thought and bring about change through one’s craft. Here in the program of Design, the students are made to not only think, but to think inventively – to imagine out of the box, beyond the norm, and reach solutions through which the communication gap in society can be lessened. Throughout their 4 years of study, students shall explore various mediums of communication and new media design – illustration. animation, film, and photography, UI/UX to packaging – before settling on their final field of research and specialization.

Rapid intellectual advances over the past fifty years have created a new field of intellectual endeavor, called Computer Science in North America and Informatics in Europe. The field not only encompasses a large body of knowledge about algorithms, processes, information, communication, languages, and systems but also concerns a new paradigm for representing and acquiring knowledge.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Islamabad Campus began its journey in 1999 with induction of first student batch. We offer a congenial environment for studies in the disciplines of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Engineering leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees. Our curriculums are unique in that they enable students to learn techniques required to solve complex engineering problems and at the same time equip them with other professional skills.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is situated in the Academic Block-I of CUI’s Main Campus located on Park Road in the Chak-Shahzad area of Islamabad.

Department of Economics

The Department of Economics aims to contribute at the frontier of knowledge in all core areas of Economics. Currently, it is one of the leading departments in the field of Economics in Pakistan in terms of PhD faculty strength and diversity of offered courses and research publications. The department has more than twenty faculty members including 14 PhDs having their doctoral degrees from reputed national and international universities.

At present the department is offering BS Economics (4 years) and MS Economics (2 years) Programs. For talented students department offers full tuition fee waiver scholarships at both undergraduate and graduate levels in each semester for the entire study period. The courses offered in the programs are at par with international standards and meet industry needs. The department provides state of the art teaching and research environment. Beside teaching and research, lectures of renowned guest speakers from industry and research institutes are organized on regular basis. Department of Humanities

The Department of Humanities is a relatively new yet vibrant department of CUI, Islamabad Campus comprising a total of 57 faculty members (with 25 PhDs, 32 MS/MPhil). The department is a community of teachers, researchers and practitioners who are teaching around 90 courses of Humanities subjects including Functional English, Technical Writing, Business Communication, French, Psychology, Sociology, Pakistan Studies, International Relations and Pakistan Studies.

Department of Management Sciences

Department of Bio Sciences

The Department of Biosciences at erstwhile COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) was established back in 2003 with an aim to establish a School of Biological Sciences. With a humble beginning with a few students, the department of Biosciences now have more than 1500 students. Since its inception, the department has grown exponentially in terms of number of offered programs, qualified faculty members, BS, MS and PhD students and research publications. Currently, we have over 86 faculty members; out of which 80 are PhDs, while the rest are MS/MPhil qualified. Most of these faculty members are alumni of world's top-class universities. This program is becoming very popular in the country and will fulfill the future needs of Pakistan in this very important field of study. In addition to the BS program the department has started MS/PhD programs in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Virology and Developmental Biology. For all these programs we have a highly qualified faculty consisting of more than 86 members of which 80 have PhD's and are actively involved in research in different domains of Biosciences.

We are committed to provide excellence and, therefore, we strive to equip our students with knowledge and skills that meaningfully contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country, as well as for the welfare and benefit of the society. The Department of Chemistry at CUI, Islamabad campus was established in July 2018. It envisions to excel in teaching, research and public outreach. The mission of the department is to provide a platform where the scientific research, chemical synthesis, instrument handling and data analysis can be performed in a professional and ethical manner. Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology is home of multidisciplinary fields and offer services to specialists of varying backgrounds ranging from Meteorology, Remote Sensing, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography and Geodesy and Geographical Information System. The Department, established in 2005, is actively engaged in research and teaching activities. Apart from research and teaching the department frequently conducts seminars, workshops and organizes national and international conferences. The Department has developed national and international linkages with many well-known and established institutions such as;

Department of Mathematics

Established in 2001, the department of mathematics started a four-year BS mathematics program during Fall-2002 at the Islamabad Campus. Later on, the MS and PhD programs in Mathematics were started in Fall- 2004. Currently, the department offers four-year BS, two-year MS, and PhD with specializations in various sub-disciplines of pure, applied and computational mathematics.

The department is comprised of highly qualified and distinguished faculty with national/international reputation. At present, there are 43 permanent PhD faculty providing colossal strength in research & development.

At present, 90 scholars are enrolled in the PhD program while 104 scholars have successfully completed their PhD in Mathematics. In addition, there are 219 students enrolled in MS Mathematics, while 399 students have completed their MS in Mathematics.

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics was established in Fall 2003 with the aim of producing highly competitive scientists, equipped with the most advanced technological tools of the modern era. It is committed to excellence in teaching and research and promoting a culture of learning and scientific enquiry. The department offers four-year B.S. programs in Physics and Electronics & Computing. It also has successful M.S., Ph.D. and the M.S. leading to Ph.D. program in Condensed Matter physics, Material Science, Plasma Physics, High energy physics, Computational physics, Laser photonics, Optoelectronic devices, Quantum Optics and Quantum Computing. The courses for these disciplines have been designed with the express aim of imparting a clear insight into basic sciences and developing strong experimental and technological skills according to the requirements of modern era. These programs provide a firm foundation for employment in industry and R & D organizations, as well opportunities to pursue academic and research-oriented careers.
